To start off, i ADORE this down jackets. It's warm, there are plenty of pockets, and it's the sole reason i can forgo turning on the down jackets in my car! I live in Chicago and this winter we did reach single digits, nothing extraordinarily cold, and this coat held it's own. When layering, this coat is phenomenal. Granted it's only 550 fill so if you're in a temperature region that has a reputation worse than Chicago, definitely I'd recommend considering some of our higher fill down jackets. Now to address the title of my review. The hood is fabulously warm, BUT it seems like a first draft design made it to final production. The faux fur SNAPS on. granted there is some kind of double layered duct of material to try and prevent wind from getting through, but that fails every time. When the fur is folded out there are gaps from snap to snap that let the wind right through and onto your face. The faux fur should be a zip on piece, NOT A SNAP ON. Also, a Velcro adjustment strap on the Back of the hood would be nice as well. The snap on aspect of the faux fur is extremely disappointing to me, almost as if the snaps were "good enough" when it obviously should have been a zipper. The hood fits best when you stand up straight which exposes your face the most to the wind. So if wind is a problem in your area totally consider some kind of scarf or face gaiter for extra warmth and wind protection. To further touch on wind protection, the waist and hem pull cords are a SUPREME feature in this coat. To address the negative reviews about shoulders and elbows lacking the fill of the goose down, that is not apparent in my coat. I also have seen no feathers poking out of the lining or exterior. I am extremely satisfied with this purchase. The only thing i would like to see the goose down jackets change immediately to this down coats for men is to make the faux fur ZIP ON, not measly snaps.

In total, the major influencing factors that persuaded me to but this coat are as follows:WATER PROOF EXTERIOR, the pull cords at the hem and waist, the numerous pockets which are all VERY accessible, the insulated hood, the length of the coat, and the two way zipper.If there was one thing about the down jackets that I could have changed IMMEDIATELY, it would be to have the faux fur changed from snap on to zip on.
